Horrifying news out of Indonesia: two men, aged 27 and 28, will face public caning after an angry mob caught the pair having gay sex at home.
The saga began on November 12, when the owner of the boarding house where one of the men lives noted that the resident (whose name has been withheld to protect his privacy, as has that of his partner) had frequent male guests to his room. He then put together a mob of other men living in the boarding house, which then stormed the room of the resident. The mob discovered the two men having sex and dragged them to the street before contacting police.
Police then arrested the two men, who will now face charges of violating the anti-gay sex laws of the Aceh province. As Aceh is a majority Muslim state, residents there have codified Sharia Law. If found guilty at trial, the two men will face public caning as punishment.

How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Safriadi, head of the local police department, told CNN Indonesia that the police have also opened an investigation to root out other members of the LGBTQ community, and have begun interrogating the men to learn names of other friends and sexual partners.
“From the initial examination they have admitted to having homosexual relations,” Safriadi told CNN. “This is what we are exploring. There may be a [gay community].”
Law in Aceh prescribes up to 100 lashes with a cane for violation of anti-gay sex laws. For the uninformed, the process involves taking a prisoner to a public area and whacking him in the back with a bamboo cane. The process is extremely painful, and can lead to permanent disfigurement.
This isn’t the only recent case of men caned in Indonesia for having gay sex. In 2017, another angry mob broke into a man’s home and found him in bed with another man. The pair ultimately received 83 lashes with a cane. In 2018, another two men convicted of having gay sex received 87 lashes.
The Human Rights Watch has condemned caning worldwide as a form of torture, and called on the nation to do away with the practice. Furthermore, the United Nations Human Rights Council has also condemned Indonesia’s anti-gay laws.

I feel sorry for these guys, but I guess it’s better than beheading.

From what I understand beheading is less painful. Being caned rips the flesh like a rhino whip. Deep wounds. Look at pictures where slaves were whipped with leather whips. It is hard to imagine that pain, supposedly caning is worse. I hope to never find out, and neither should any living being.

100 lashes is far worse. You have the initial lashes and then the pain/discomfort after. You’ll also be ostracized and will most likely never find a job.
These Muslim nations are disgusting and filled with hypocrites.
Even most of the Muslims outside of those vile nations are…
I’ve only ever met one that want a hypocrite. One very cute one.

“There may be a [gay community].”
DUH.
Next they discover that gays are actually normal humans too with normal human needs and -maybe if they develop from their ancient beliefs- normal human rights.

the is just terrible. not even in one’s own home can they engage in their love for one another.

For goodness sake, can’t the “we’re all about family and respect” crowd, mind their business. These traditional people can be quite insufferable.

I hate islam

Please lets be better then them and not hate a whole group of people, just because some nutjobs sticks to sharia law. Religion is man made (made by straight men). So I truly believe that religion itself is not the source of the problem, the people are. And that is coming from someone who hates religion with a passion. Even if we were – let’s say – able to simply take religion away, I don’t think it would change a thing, It might maybe even make people more extreme. I mean I get it, we’re angry, we go for simple solutions, but hate and generalization will only divide us further.

Generally the more agnostic the country is the more advanced it is in terms of human rights. That’s why I’ll never embrace religion as just a harmless little life style.
However, you’re right about one thing. Shitty people are going to still be shitty people religious or not. It’s just that they don’t have the convenient cover.

Chris, I agree, we need to have an eye on religion. We need to keep them out of every government. I will never vote christian party and I will never encourage people to join a religion. But saying “i hate islam” like that guy won’t help, quite the contrary. Not saying my first impulse wasn’t to rant about that sh*thole country, how they are hardly more evolved than monkeys… but I saw that that was already partially covered the comment section so I went for a different approach. 🙂

I stopped reading after i see Mooslem. You can’t reason with insane.

Of course it’s a muslim thing. Scummy religion that should be destroyed.

Conservative Christians in the US would do the same if they had the option to. Instead they have exports their hate to Africa where they can get away with it.
This is why we must vote and never vote republican until they rid themselves of the Christian scourge.

I won’t be visiting that backwards place. Was never interested in going to Indonesia. Hope all those unfortunate lgbtq get help or get out ASAP. Don’t understand how ppl barging in to your private residence is not considered illegal. Ever notice that two women never get this kind of treatment and have their privacy violated

“Oh let’s not tar the whole religion just because its adherents follow its teachings and commit inhuman atrocities!” Honestly. The problem IS Islam, just like the problem IS Christianity. If the seeds of atrocity weren’t clearly sown in the religions, then the nutjobs wouldn’t find them so easily and so often. Religion is the problem; stop the fawning faux-wokeness. Christianity is terrible and in its worst form has insinuated itself into government institutions in the US and elsewhere, promoting intolerance and brutality and white supremacy. Islam is terrible and drives many of its adherents to acts of terrorism, and where it is adopted as law it is brutal and indefensibly terrible.

It’s not that black and white or simple. Religion IS a tool or the excuse people use, i think we can agree on that? They are like “Oh no I’m not against homosexuals, but the bible says…” when the people themselves are homophobic. Not saying that decades of religious indoctrination didn’t help that cause, but again, it’s the people behind it. The church is a straight white male club, of course the don’t let us or women play with them.
I think that overgeneralisation and extremes are easy but always wrong. Not everyone who believes in god hates gay people. Not every muslim is a terrorist.
I don’t know what your solution is here? Force people into atheism? Some people need that support in their life, they need to believe in a higher being and they are free to do so. Call them traitor to the cause or whatever, but you won’t be able to take that away from them. The only chance we have is that more and more people leave church (which they do). Let religion kill itself off by not going with the time. But that won’t change the people, we still will be the minority, the “unnatural” in the eyes of certain people.
TLDR: Humanity is scum and the problem, not the religion we invented. not your grandma wanting to believe that she will go to heaven when she dies.

Yo, guys — this isn’t about religion. The US government helped the Indonesian military kill about a *million* civilians in Indonesia in the 1960s, in the name of anti-communism (google “Jarkarta Method”). Without that, and the propaganda they developed during that time, you can rest assured the Indonesian government would be a lot different, way less hard-line conservative. That’s something that’s happened across the world… the US empowers right-wing/hard-line governments that support US financial interests (ie Saudi Arabia) and crushes leftist/egalitarian movements among Muslims, or among any third world population really. Please understand that.

I am horrified by this unwarranted, despicable, barbaric response to normal natural human behavior. This hatred is all rooted in a barbaric religion.
I will never visit nor spend a dime of my money that would benefit Indonesia.

This will not be good for Indonesia at a time when they desperately need tourism dollars. Many travelers are put off by barbaric sentences like this and will think twice about booking a trip. There are many choices of nice warm countries and it’s pretty easy to find an option that’s not inhabited by hateful people.

I REALLY HOPE ANOTHER TSUMANI HITS THAT UGLY DUMP AND WIPIES IT OFF OF THE FACE OF THE EARTH. STINKING TALIBAN GARBAGE.
